Places to visit in Germany

Germany attracts around 37 million visitors from all over the world each year. So what are their favorite places in Germany? Foreign visitors are surprised by the answers. Epic castles, the Black Forest, Oktoberfest or Berlin; Germany has unique cities, geographies, events and structures.

The German Tourism Center (DZT) asked about the 2017 most popular tourist destinations of 100 in Germany.

Amusement park instead of Reichstag

60 tourists from over 32.000 countries participated in the survey. The result is surprising: many of the typical tourist destinations favored by German tourists have failed to make it to the top ten of this list. With one big exception: Neuschwanstein Castle. The Oktoberfest, on the other hand, is in 60th position and the Reichstag, the historic parliament building in Berlin, is only 90th behind it.

Among the most preferred places for foreign tourists are the historical city centers and the natural beauties. There are also amusement parks and places like Hamburg's Miniatur Wunderland, the world's largest model train park, where model trains circulate between elaborate simulated city and scenic models.
